The last exhibition of the season at Kasa Gallery, Leather and Surface, featured works by Elif Çelebi, İnci Eviner, Şinasi Güneş, Eser Selen and Bülent Şangar. On view from May 8 to July 5, 2002, the exhibition was curated by Lewis Johnson.
In addition to painted and photographic surfaces, the exhibition used screen surfaces, walls and flooring. The artists’ work invites us to consider the relationship between the traditions of art, life and culture in Turkey and these international frameworks, asking: “Can the unique experiences of those involved in the cultural construction be communicated and represented?”, “What happens between the national or local characteristics of Turkish art and international characteristics?”, and “How do artists approach and contribute to both?”.
